The 50 mmm lens is the best lens to shoot pictures with this was a lesson i learned in the 1980,s when starting out working as a press photographer .I was given a batted Nikon FE camera with a 50mm lens a roll of black and white film told to go out and shoot pictures and not to come back until the roll of film was full .then come back to the darkroom and process the film and print the best images .three hours later I returned to the paper, processed the film and printed off 4 of my best images. I showed them to the chief photographer his comment was okey good you have a camera a lens now you can shoot news photos  .the lesson is you don't need tons of equipment or the latest camera with all the gismos to take pictures.  I have covered news stories events just with the basic equipment almost the same as when I started out. Often you see these news photographers/freelancers with camera's that have all the gismos etc.. bulky long lenses which scream look at me I am trying to be a professional photographer. Henri carter Basson had a Leica ranger finder camera with a 50 mmm lens and became one of the best photographers of the 20 th century. I have in my bag Nikon d700. DLSR camera,  24MM, 50MM 35-70MM med zoom 70 -200 MM old ai  lens. my old Goosen lunar six light meter, and a flash gun spare batteries and spare CF cards All in my Domeke f2 camera bag that i have had for years.
